As part of the Broadband DATA Act, and as required in the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the FCC has been tasked to create a map that shows broadband coverage in the U.S. The first step is development of a Broadband Location Fabric that will contain the data on which locations are served. The FCC has released a preliminary version and is encouraging service providers to use the preliminary version of the Fabric to gain an understanding how it will be used so they can be prepared to submit to the production Fabric. The Fabric will be the basis of the Broadband Maps that will be used to determine the amount of funds that will be available to each state from the BEAD program.
