Teatime with Tiny Edelgard
Having narrowly escaped death multiple times in the previous battle, Byleth decided it was probably time to take an interest in hers students’ strengths and weaknesses in order to better understand them in battle. She had just spent hours eating with them, training them in specific skills, fishing for food, and even singing in the choir with theme. Now, with the day nearing an end, Byleth figured she could squeeze in a quick tea time with her strongest student, Edelgard.
She quickly selected her best tea, then sprinted up to Edelgard and invited her to tea. Moments later the two were sitting at a table, drinking together. Noticing a lull in the conversation, Byleth thought of three things to say. She hadn’t been paying attention, so she picked one at random. Edelgard must have thought Byleth was doing a good job listening, because she smiled and nodded.
“Yes, I am a bit nervous for the upcoming battle of the Eagle and the Lion. I know that with my classmates behind me nothing can stand in my way, yet I still fear were it not for you, my teacher, I may not succeed.”
Byleth, still not listening, picked another thing to say at random. Edelgard didn’t seem as interested in this one. “Um, right.” She said, picking up her tea and taking a drink, as Byleth did the same.
Edelgard began speaking again after finishing her tea, but Byleth was focused on something else. Edelgard seemed to be getting smaller. It was hard to notice at first, but after a while, there was no denying it. Edelgard was alway a bit short, but she was clearly far smaller than she normally was.
After a minute, Edelgard stopped her speech mid-thought. She had noticed it too. Hardly seeming to believe it at first, Edelgard looked down at her hands, which only confirmed that she was shrinking. Unable to see over the table now, she stood up on her chair, but even that only allowed her to see for a moment before she quickly shrank down below it again.
Despite standing up now, Edelgard could do nothing as she continued to shrink. Eventually, once she reached the point she was afraid to even see if she could get any smaller, Edelgard stopped shrinking. Gazing up, she saw her teacher, now massive, who had walked over to see where her student had gone.
Byleth reached down to pick Edelgard up, and set her on the table so she could see her better. “Professor!” She tried to protest as she was lifted into the air, but to no avail. “Professor, what kind of tea was that to make me shrink like this?”
Byleth hadn’t really considered looking at what was in the tea. She just picked the one that had the most little heart icons next to it. Perhaps Edelgard was allergic to it. This certainly didn’t bode well for their next battle. Although, if students learned to be more adept at supporting each other when they were close together, with Edelgard this small she was easy to keep nearby. Maybe this wasn’t such a bad thing after all. Byleth scooped up Edelgard and headed out to the market to see if she could buy any more of that tea.
Notes:
Yeah, I made her way too small here. It’s hard when I’m making the animation to know when to stop though. She looks so cute being .1x her size, but then I figure I may as well shrink her smaller and smaller, and before I know it she’s 2 cm tall. It ends up making it really hard to frame her in the camera being this small.
Other than that though, I’m happy enough with this one. There’s a ton of clipping with their arms going through the table, but it’s not overly noticeable.
At first the plan was to have both Edelgard and Byleth shrink, but after I started, I thought of how hard it would be to get a camera shot with both of them in it, and decided to focus my efforts on only Edelgard instead.
