A copper sleeve is attached to a terminal via ultrasonic welding. Afterwards, two copper cables, each with a 50 mm2 wire cross-section, are welded on the opposite side, likewise using ultrasonic welding. During the process, the initial welding is protected from the vibrations of the second welding via damping. The welded product is used as a battery cell connector in high-voltage batteries in e-mobility.
Ultrasonic metal welding is suitable for homogeneous and mixed connections of copper, aluminum, and various other non-ferrous metals and for welding on nickel-plated, silver-plated, gold-plated, and other coated surfaces.
