Russia Will Quit International Space Station Over Sanctions
According to the head of the country's space agency, Russia will leave the International Space Station (ISS) due to sanctions imposed on Moscow as a result of its conflict with Ukraine.
Roscosmos General Director Dmitry Rogozin said in an interview on April 30 that the decision has already been made; and they are not obligated to talk about it publicly. In accordance with their obligations, they'll give their partners a year's notice of the end of work on the ISS.
Rogozin earlier this month threatened to end Russia's mission unless the United States, European Union, and Canada lifted sanctions against Russian space industry companies.
Russian space analysts have already stated that Russia has never agreed to extend its involvement in the ISS beyond 2024; and the US space agency NASA and the other international partners now want the project to be extended until at least 2030.
