Kinnow is the most important variety of Orange in Pakistan and mostly grown in Sargodha, Bhalwal, Layyah and Toba Tek Singh districts of Punjab province. Fertilizers management play pivotal role in its quality and production quantity. Basal application of Phosphorus, Potash fertilizers and micronutrients during the month of January to mid of February plays more critical role in new growth, flower and fruit setting. Fertigation of sulphur and sulphur bases products like potassium humate (Porus and structure -FMC) is also important for drainage and soil conditioning. Additional spray of amino acids and NPK 8:8:6 (Bayfolan-Bayer)at flowering and 250 kg CAN fertilizer+25 kg soluble Potash+10 kg phosphoric acid after fruit setting in the month of May help in maximum fruit bearing. 2-3 time split spray of 2 kg KNO3 from July to August and 150 gram micronutrient (Headland Multi-Swat Agro) plus 1 kgHi-K gold (Swat Agro) at change in color in October may lead to bumper crop of Kinnow.
Pre mature fruit drop of kinnow due to very high temperature during the month of May, may sometimes lead to severe damage of fruits. In this video, we have advised the farmers of citrus plants not only to apply water with short intervals, full control of thrips, leaf miner but 1-2 time spray of amino acids like Tecamin Max (Jaffar Agros)@ 500 ml with 150-200 liter of water per acre.

Kinnow is grown on a huge acreage in Punjab. Several factors limit its production and fruit quality. During the recent years, citrus scab has become an important disease. This disease is caused by a fungus known as Elsinoe fawcettii. Not only a network of ugly streaks develops on the skin of fruit but leaves and twigs are also affected in severe cases. Initially these streaks develop on tiny fruits during the first two months but their network continues to progress with the passage of time.

We have suggested that 2-3 alternate spray of Nativo (trifloxystrobin+tebuconazole) Bayer @ 65 gram and Amistar Top (azoxystrobin+difenoconazole) Syngenta@ 200 ml per 200 liter of water during mid of May to mid of June. Crop should also be supplemented with the fertigation of potash plus boron (Polysulphide KS 30:40) , spray of KB @ 500 gram/200 liter of water and amino acids like Tecamin Max (Jaffer Agros) for the development of resistance against this disease.
