If you were lucky enough to have had this game as a kid, you remember playing it every day with your friends. You set up neighborhood leagues and tournaments. You played hundreds of games on it before you outgrew it. Years later when you asked about it, you were disheartened to find out it was sold at a garage or rummage sale. Well, stop feeling sorry for yourself Nancy and get ready to lay claim on a Blast From Your Childhood Past!
Here's a 1970 Munro Toys National table hockey game in almost the same condition it left the factory in nearly 40 years ago. This game was made near the end of the tin men and metal game era and is a virtual clone of the Bobby Hull models of the same vintage and design. Most of these great games were worn out by rough play or stored in damp environments and rusted away years ago. But here my fellow eBayers, is a survivor!
Take a look at the pictures and the video below and you will see and hear a game that plays and displays like new! Wear and tear is almost non-existent on this game. The playing surface looks new! The shine would bring a smile to a Zamboni driver's face. The playing surface is as close to flat as you're going to find in one of these vintage games. It hasn't warped like so many of them did. The gorgeous metal frame is 100% rust-free! The original paint is in excellent condition. If not for a few light scratches and a couple of insignificant dents the size of a pencil eraser, this game would be in a museum somewhere.
But this game's beauty is more than skin deep! As far as playability is concerned, you wont find better, certainly not in a vintage table hockey game made 39 years ago! I say that because the playing surface is as close to perfectly flat as you will find. Most games of this vintage were stored improperly and have badly warped game boards to show for it. But this game has passed the test of time without warping and thats what makes it so much fun to play. The tin players glide effortlessly back and forth in their slots without binding against the playing surface. You'll be amazed! You can see how flat it is in the pictures.
The underside of the game is virtually flawless! Munro made the best quality tabletop games around and the all-metal player control mechanisms work just as well today as they did when the game was new! The underside of the frame is completely free of rust. The rods are straight and smooth! The metal gears have been lubed for years of trouble-free play.
The tin players representing the greatest rivalry in NHL history between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs are in excellent condition. Each is flat and 100% rust free. Paint loss and wear and tear is minimal.
The two nets and pucks are original! The nets are in mint condition. Each net is completely free of cracks and holes in the plastic netting and each has all of the tabs that fit into the game board. The four plastic puck flippers are all present as are all of the vinyl grips at the end of the rods.
The often-missing overhead scoreboard is included and in excellent condition. The automatic delayed-puck drop works like a charm! The red plastic housing is completely free of cracks and breaks. The plastic scoreboard frame is also completely free of cracks and breaks and stands sturdily above the game board. The original cardboard inserts have been lost along the way.
And if all that isn't enough, the original box is included and it's a beauty. You'll definitely want to display it along with the game. It isnt perfect, but it's held up better than most things 40-years-old.
