One more street has been named after the heroine who saved Jews during the Holocaust, - wrote Boris Lozhkin on Facebook.
Tatyana Gerashchenko from the Dnipropetrovsk region hid an unfamiliar Jewish woman, Frieda Maiman, with her one and a half year old daughter, shared the last piece of bread with them and helped find a more suitable shelter for them, as the child was constantly ill because of the cold in the Tetyana’s house.
On April 26, 2006, Yad Vashem honored Tatyana Gerashchenko with the honorary title “The Righteous Among the Nations”, and on December 17, 2018, as part of the project “The Righteous People of My City”, one of the streets in the settlement of Rozdory in the Synelnykivsky district of the Dnipropetrovsk region was named after her.
The Jewish Confederation of Ukraine is grateful to all the local councils working to perpetuate the memory of the Ukrainian heroes.
