Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. One week on after the sudden death of the MC Stevie Hyper D. The shockwave of Our colossal loss hit home. The news of Stevie Hyper D's passing had echoed round the whole of London and beyond. This was before the days of the internet and so communication was primarily through pirate radio. This sad news had cast a shadow over the scene, its events and pirate radio. The way which East Man and Kool FM reacted is one of pure admiration and respect. As all the legends and people involved rallied round to raise funds for the Stevie Hyper Foundation (Generation Hyper) and in support of his family. As plugged away by MC A1, Kool FM ran a memorial event @Camden Palace. The wound was still fresh and the scene picked up its heavy heart to continue the legacy of Hyper D as they strived to produce musical excellence.
With that said, our main focus is on the DJ Magic and MC A1. They had featured on Cyndicut FM 97.8 only a few months before this show and had newly formed part of the Kool FM Hit Squad. The later part of 1998 and early part of 1999 saw an expansion of the Kool FM family, with the introduction of a new wave of talent: DJ Magic, DJ Papa Gee, DJ Logan D, DJ Crissy Chris, DJ Ruffstuff, MC Curse, MC Junglist, MC Riddla D, MC Funsta and others.
DJ Magic had established himself as one the underground legends in the Jungle and Drum & Bass halls of fame. He mustn't be confused with J Majik, (Metalheadz and Planet Earth label) also a legendary Jungle/DNB producer. To those of you who remember DJ Magic's solo productions as well as the classics he produced under the collective name of P.O.T. - Prisoners Of Technology (Fresh Kutt Records). He built volumes of classic tracks and they had made an impact on the rave scene and pirate radio. Tracks like: "The Trick Of Technology" and "Sweet Vibrations"(1996), "Delikutt Beats(1997)", "FEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLL "(1997), "The Trick Of Technology"(1997), "What Does It Mean"(1997), "Battle Master" (Vol.3, 1997), "Crazzzy" and "Cold Blooded" (Vol.6, 1998), "Tha Boggiee" (Vol.5, 1998).
Also releasing tracks as Prisoners Of Technology, on Battlemaster Recordings, which was owned by TMS 1: Prisoners Of Technology - Rev Head (2003), Prisoners Of Technology - Freakin Nightmare (2003), Prisoners Of Technology – Deadly Technique / Ghetto Shit (2004). In 2007, he released another Trick Of Technology Remix (Part 1) Remix – DJ Magic (Dance Concept Recordings). He also produced some UK Garage tracks, releasing them at the height of the UKG explosion: DJ Magic – Special Love (Silva Quest, 2001), DJ Magic Featuring MC Smallie + Lady Duffy – Friday Night Limbo (Golddust Recordings, 2001), DJ Magic – Put It On Me (Golddust Recordings, 2001). DJ Magic is a well known DNB circuit DJ playing out a various underground raves in the 90s and 2000s.
