The eruption of the Stromboli volcano is taking place at this moment on the Italian island of the same name in the Tyrrhenian Sea. First, several volcanic explosions thundered over the island, then huge clouds of ash rose. Then fires broke out on the slope of the volcano, lava stones began to fall from the sky, and then a pyroclastic flow descended into the sea.
A warship was sent to the island to participate in a possible rescue operation. Authorities have not yet announced a general evacuation, but have raised the alert level to orange and urged residents not to leave their homes. However, despite warnings, tourists continue to arrive on the island.
The Stromboli volcano remains active for several thousand years, although large-scale eruptions are rare. So, in November 2020, Stromboli threw out a column of ash that fell on several villages. According to scientists, the eruption of the Stromboli volcano is one almost continuous phenomenon that has lasted over the past 20 thousand years.
