Anti-doping agenda by Maxim AGAPITOV
Weightlifting is on the cusp of a historic decision to become a clean sport, abandoning doping and corruption forever, or to return to the dark times, where clean athletes have no chance of success. The IWF must protect clean athletes, including their rights to clean and fair competition. Today, the temptation is great for many to maintain a system of doping preferences for powerful countries that are not among the winners of world championships. But if the sport is clean, can there still be double standards? Weightlifting is in a deep doping crisis. One more step and we are out of the Olympics! We must put an end to doping abuses all over the world and definitely rule out doping. The IWF needs an anti-doping accountability program that includes education, information and public outreach to national federations, coaches and athletes.
My friends, I am convinced that weightlifting is a unique sport, self-developing, beautiful and spectacular. We need to remove what prevents it from developing - to stop corruption, fraud and manipulation.
