1.University of Bologna
It was the first place of study to use the term universitas for the corporations of students and masters which came to define the institution, located in Bologna, Italy.As of 2013, the University's crest carries the motto Alma mater studiorum and the date A.D. 1088. The University has about 85,500 students in its 11 schools.It has campuses in Ravenna, Forlì, Cesena and Rimini and a branch center abroad in Buenos Aires.It also has a school of excellence named Collegio Superiore di Bologna. An associate publisher of the University of Bologna is Bononia University Press S.p.A (BUP).
2.University of Paris
The University of Paris (French: Université de Paris), metonymically known as the Sorbonne, was a French university, founded circa 1150 in Paris, France, recognised 1200 by King Philip II and 1215 by Pope Innocent III, as one of the first universities.Reputed for its academic performance notably in theology and philosophy, it introduced many European academic as well as student traditions, such as student nations. The university is colloquially referred to as the Sorbonne after its collegiate institution, Collège de Sorbonne, founded around 1257 by Robert de Sorbon.

The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University or simply Oxford) is a collegiate research university located in Oxford, England. While having no known date of foundation, there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096,[1] making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world and the world's second-oldest surviving university.It grew rapidly from 1167 when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris.After disputes between students and Oxford townsfolk in 1209, some academics fled northeast to Cambridge where they established what became the University of Cambridge.The two "ancient universities" are frequently jointly referred to as "Oxbridge".
4.University of Cambridge
The University of Cambridge in England was established in 1209 after a dispute in the University of Oxford led to the execution of two scholars. The university was granted a royal charter in 1231.
5.University of Salamanca
The University of Salamanca was believed to have been founded in 1134 and is the third oldest university in continuous operation in Europe.
6.University of Padua, Italy
The University of Padua was initially founded as a school of law in 1222 by a group of professors and scholars from the University of Bologna. It’s curricular quickly expanded and was eventually divided into three distinct universities.
7.University of Naples Federico II
The University of Naples Federico II is also located in Italy. It was founded in 1224 and it is one of the oldest universities in the world named after its founder Federeco II the emperor of the Italy Roman Empire. The famous philosopher “Thomas Aquinas” was a graduate of the university of Naples Federico.
8.University of Toloulose
The formation of this university was part of the treaty of Paris in 1229 ending the crusade against the Albinesing and was imposed on Count Raymond VIII. Count Raymond was suspected to be sympathizing with the heretics, and was forced to establish the University for the teaching of theology.
9.University of Siena
The University of Siena, Italy was founded in 1240 and is located in Siena, Tuscany. It is the first publicly founded university and its entire student population is about half the size of the population of Siena.
10.University of Valladolid
The University of Valladolid is the 10th oldest university in the world having been established in 1241 in Valladolid Castile-Leon, Spain. The university still functions today and has over 31000 students and 2000 teachers.
