Snowplows took to the streets Friday as Halifax saw its first major snowstorm of 2023.

A blanket of white across the city meant a cold and wet day.

The late January start to winter ends a record-low snowfall streak that Haligonians had been experiencing.

The storm meant the closure of a majority of schools in Nova Scotia on Friday.

Environment Canada forecasted up to 20 centimetres of snow for the entire province, including Cape Breton. Some areas could even see higher amounts.

Snowfall began early Friday morning, and is expected to last all day — potentially until Saturday morning.
