The Windows Server 2022 editions are;
- Windows Server 2022 Datacenter.
- Windows Server 2022 Standard.
- Windows Server 2022 Essentials.
Microsoft Windows server has two licensing models; The Core based and the CAL licensing.
The Core-based and CAL licensing model is for Windows Server 2022 Datacenter and Windows Server 2022 Standard. The Per Server licensing model works with Windows Server 2022 Essentials.
The Core license is assigned to each physical core in the server, with a minimum of 8 Core licenses per processor, and a minimum of 16 Core licenses per server. The CAL which is Client Access License is assigned either to the device or the user.
For medium and large organizations looking to use the Windows Server 2022, the Windows Server 2022 Datacenter and Windows Server 2022 Standard can be recommended. However, the Windows Server 2022 Standard and Windows Server 2022 Essentials is an option that may be considered by smaller organizations.
