Edward R. Laskowski, M.D., Professor of PM&R, Co-Director of Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine Center, Rochester, Minnesota discusses the center’s desire to help people perform their best no matter whether they are a professional athlete or do some occasional exercise. The facility has the tools to analyze movement and mechanics to help people be the best they can be and reduce the risk of injury. There are physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians on site, orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, plus strength and conditioning colleagues. The center also features on-site digital radiography, brace application and musculoskeletal ultrasound. Along with corticosteroids, the center is also investigating and using platelet rich plasma and stem cell therapy from bone marrow astrid. After receiving treatment many people find they are able to resume the activities they love and improve their overall quality life.
