8:30PM - Helen Svoboda
9PM - R.P. Downie
Fresh from its December debut, S P A T I A L I V E is a new live series curated by David Quested & Ollie Cox for Magnet’s iconic Spatial Studio. Each month features some of Naarm / Melbourne’s most exciting artists. The series aims to create a unique listening environment, with an emphasis on song and improvisational based music, embracing the intimacy of the Spatial. Due to the latest Omicron outbreak, this month S P A T I A L I V E is being transmitted as a live stream.
Helen Svoboda is a double bassist, vocalist, composer, and nature enthusiast. Born of Finnish/Australian heritage, she draws influence from vegetables, flowers and the genres of minimalist neo-classical music to folk and experimental jazz. Driven by the spontaneity of improvisation and the novelty of large wooden instruments, she emits a carefree, quirky energy into all aspects of her artistic practice, with a flair for "allowing difficult ideas to sound whimsical and free" (Kristin Berardi, AUS). She is defined not by genre, but by an addiction to music and her love of exciting creative environments.
