On 3 December 2021, Turkish Embassy in Dhaka, in partnership with Bangladesh-Türkiye Business Platform, hosted the Sufi Encounters, a cultural evening of Sufi music, poetry and movements to celebrate the shared Sufi traditions between Türkiye and Bangladesh. This cultural program was also organised as Türkiye's contribution to the Mujib Borsho, birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Father of the Bangladeshi Nation, and the Golden Jubilee, 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh. The event video, recorded by Maasranga TV, was aired, for the first time, on 17 December 2021, on the occasion of the 748th death anniversary of Sufi mystic and poet Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi who lived and died in Konya, the then capital of the Seljuk Empire. Hazrat Shahjalal, a disciple of Rumi, settled and spread Islam in Sylhet, the city of saints in the north east of Bangladesh. Shahjalal's mother was from Konya, a strong bond that makes Konya and Sylhet sister cities since 2011.
