On Monday 16th October storm Ophelia brought extremely strong winds to the north west, gusting up to 50 miles per hour.
Luckily for Manchester the wind direction was directly up the runway which meant that pilots had a strong headwind opposed to a strong crosswind. This meant that many flights suffered bumpy and unsettled approaches however nearly all were able to make successful first attempt landings throughout the day.
However this FlyBe Embraer ERJ-175, registered G-FBJF was caught by a gust of wind feet above the runway forcing the pilots to make a go around. The aircraft followed the standard missed approach path, turning right and looping round to make a second successful approach. This was one of the few aircraft who were forced to go around that day however as you can hear in the video, the wind was extremely strong and challenging for flights.
