...Source: [ Ссылка ] Transcript: Per InsideEVs, a Dutch couple, Renske Cox and Maarten van Pel, embarked on a 24,000-mile journey from the Netherlands to South Africa and back in a 2021 Skoda Enyaq Electric Vehicle. They traveled through 38 countries, tackling unreliable electrical grids with a custom-made portable DC-to-DC charger. This charger, 20% more efficient than regular AC to DC wallboxes, was powered by 60 portable solar panels.
Their EV was kitted out with all-terrain tires, heavy-duty springs, a rooftop tent, and an induction cooktop. Impressively, 54% of their total energy consumption, over 5,500 kilowatt-hours, came from solar power. The solar panels, rated at 180 W each, provided a potential power output of 10.8 kW, enabling Level 2 charging capabilities.
The DC-to-DC charger was developed by Venema E-mobility in the Netherlands. This setup allowed them to stay off-grid and continue their journey without relying on public charging stations.
