La’Tonzia Adams, MD, MS, FCAP, witnessed how an artificially heightened estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) prevented her father from receiving adequate kidney disease treatment. Now, Dr. Adams is spreading the word about the elimination of race-based adjustment factors from eGFR equations, as well as the need to evaluate race’s impact on patient care in other areas of medicine.
