The Roland RD-200 digital piano from 1986 was the smaller 73-version of the Roland RD-300 with 88 keys. It was the cheap series of the iconic RD-1000 stage piano, Rolands first flagship stage piano, which was used live from Elton John. The RD-1000 also came as a rack version, the MKS-20.
The technology of all those Pianos and the Sound engine were the same. It was based on the Structured Adaptive Synthesis. Roland's structured adaptive synthesis (SAS) has been explained as a "...sophisticated re-synthesis technique which involves a highly accurate computer analysis of 'real' sounds, from which a near replica can be synthesised“. All those Pianos of these series hat 8 presets you could edit with an equalizer, an analog chorus and a flanger.
The RD-200/300 had the same engine than the RD-1000, but you had only a brilliance fader instead of an equalizer, also the chorus was only on and off. But it is a very cheap opportunity to get this sound for around 100 EUR.
