Russian attack submarines are increasingly patrolling the coasts of Scandinavia and Scotland, the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic, a US Navy chief has said. Vladimir Putin's recent boost to the submarine fleet means Russia now has the most underwater attack vessels in the area in two decades. Adm Mark Ferguson, the US Navy's top commander in Europe, said that patrols had increased by almost 50 per cent in the past year, citing a Russian Navy official.
