Controlling Glass Quality During Heat Treatment
State-of-the-art glass heat treatment lines leverage modern metrology to produce high-quality products with high production throughput. These systems enable manufacturers to achieve greater efficiency and productivity, while reducing waste. However, measurements alone are not enough! These raw measurements must be continuously analyzed in real-time to identify trends and, most importantly, produce immediate feedback to adjust the process before quality or yield are affected. The current shortage of highly skilled labor has made this much more important.
We will provide an overview of the tools currently available for today’s premier glass heat treatment lines to leverage modern metrology, analysis, and intelligence systems to improve product quality and production throughput. Topics will include a review of different types of glass quality measurements in distortion, iridescence, white haze, overall bow, scratches, and coating defects, and how these relate to existing EN and ASTM standards. One of the most powerful recent industry trends is the automatic real-time adjustments of quality control systems based on specific characteristics of the glass being inspected including coating type, thickness, and part size. We will cover the tools and methodologies currently available to automatically drive this adjustment.
