The Song of Song - Don't - River's Path - A River of Tears - The Doctor's Something - Tell Me Who You Are
Part 2 can be found here: [ Ссылка ]
WAKEY WAKEY! It's Easter! And there's not a Doctor Who episode in sight. Bah. You know what? Let's make a holiday special, RTD-style!
- Big! Massively big! So big YouTube can't handle it! ... or at least my account can't.
- Possibly so big I can't handle it either, which means...
- There'll probably be some pretty good stuff and most likely some toe-curl-inducingly bad stuff.
- Tritovores and Lee Evans not included.
In other words: An almost 20 minute suite for two pianos based on Murray Gold's brilliant music for River Song, as orchestrated by Ben Foster and performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales - spanning three seasons of Doctor Who.
BEWARE SPOILERS: The titles above are made pretty spoiler free, but the *actual* titles of the suite's individual themes - as written below, in the score, and in the video, are *major* spoilers, if you haven't seen series 6 yet. You have been warned. And in case you don't read this description, too bad for you.
PART 1
The Song of Song - 00:00
From "Silence in the Library", this isn't actually all that River-related other than the title, and River featuring in the episode, although it does have a cue for River's diary included.
Don't - 02:19
Most will remember this as the music at the ending of "Midnight". It was reused (and so, pre-heard) in "Silence in the Library" for the Doctor's conversations with River. It has reappeared in (among others) "The Eleventh Hour" and "The Almost People", but has never been released on soundtrack. Stephen Willis came up with this title, which I think is very apt for both its early uses.
River's Path - 03:49
Action music for River's mission on the Byzantium at the beginning of "The Time of Angels". A variation was heard in the opening montage of "The Pandorica Opens".
A River of Tears - 04:41
Took center stage when Amy got River's empty diary in "The Big Bang" and was heard again during the Doctor's conversation with River at the end of the same episode. This cue introduces harmonic material that was to play a major part in Season 6 - and hence the following themes.
The Doctor's Final Journey - 05:32
From "The Impossible Astronaut", this piece accompanies the Doctor's viking (or Timelord?) burial. Unreleased on soundtrack.
Tell Me Who You Are - 07:26
Underscored River's explanation and challenge to the Doctor in "When a Good Man Goes To War", followed by his counter-challenge.
Now, as the introduction hints, I'm (as always) not quite satisfied with it. "Wedding" could use more pedal, Tell Me Who You Are a bit more pathos, and the dynamics aren't quite where I want them. But what can you do? (Well, make a version 2 at some point).
Most of the actual themes in their full orchestral glory, as performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Ben Foster, are available on the official soundtracks from Silva Screen Records:
