This video shows an example of an unadjusted Mystery Ranch Fire pack.
The pack is probably going to come with the yoke fairly shrunk up, that’s usually how we ship it, but potentially you’re going to get it issued to you or it’s going to be a hand-me-down from the previous crewmember and you’ll need to adjust it when you get it issued to you.
The first thing, and this is common across all our packs, is to put your waist belt where you like it and cinch it up nice and tight. Once a pack is riding on the hips where you like it, go to the back and undo the three buckles that are on the yoke and grab the orange pull tab. Housed inside the yoke, is the upper frame sheet which also acts as the adjuster.
Use the adjuster to break the velcro bond between the pack and the yoke and then extend that yoke up. What you’re looking for is the seam between the shoulder pad and the yoke to be about level with the shoulder blade. Take the adjuster out, replace it in the upper yoke, and then you can go ahead and tighten your shoulder pads.
