The floss rule for spelling says -
If a one syllabic word has short vowel sound and immediately after the short vowel,there is consonant /f/,/l/, /s/ ,or /z/ then double the final consonant.
ex. will, chill, full, off, bluff, stuff, cliff, pass, cross, grass, glass, miss, buzz, jazz etc.
