This video focuses on the ongoing persecution of the Crimean Tatars by both the Soviet Union in the past and the Russian Federation in present times. The Crimean Tatars are a Muslim ethnic group native to Crimea who were deported en masse to Central Asia by Stalin during World War II. After the fall of the Soviet Union, the Tatars were allowed to return to Crimea but have faced ongoing discrimination, harassment, and persecution, particularly under Russian rule. The situation escalated dramatically in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea and began cracking down on the Tatars, including banning their governing body, the Mejlis, and arresting and imprisoning Tatar leaders on trumped-up charges. The video sheds light on this ongoing human rights crisis and calls for the international community to take action to support the Tatars and hold Russia accountable for their persecution.
