Hampi is a village in Karnataka, India. The place is known for the ruined 16th century city, Vijayanagar. At its peak, this was one of the largest and most prosperous places on earth. For over 200 years traders from Persia, Europe, Asia and other parts of India came to trade at the famous bazaars of the city. Diamonds, rubies, gold, spices and silk made this city very rich. Yet, it succumbed to the combined army of the Deccan Sultanate in 1565. The city was never rebuild.
The walk takes you from the main Hampi bazaar ruins to the tungabhadra river (Chakra Tirtha). On the way you will cross a temple or two, and then we walk together to the large boulder area. People usually don't come here, but here are hidden temples and stone carvings.
