This video describes in detail about the structure of human egg cell in Tamil.
Ovum refers to secondary oocyte stage of oogenesis, where the second maturation division is yet to occur. The immature egg is discharged from the Graafian follicle (during ovulation). Each ovum is a rounded and non-motile structure. Size 0.1mm.
Nucleus of the egg is large and is called Germinal vesicle. Cytoplasm of the egg is called ooplasm. It has external cortex called Ectoplasm and an internal ooplasm. Yolk sac is very less and hence called microlecithal/alecithal.
Egg cell has three coverings:
1. Inner thin vitelline membrane/ Egg membrane
2. Middle thick Zona pellucida, glycoproteinaceus acellular layer secreted by granulosa cells
3. Outer thick corona radiata-formed by granulosa cells arranged radially
There is a narrow space between these two membranes known as perivitelline space. First polar boy lies in this space.
