The NEW Scarp 1 ULTRA tent! Made with Challenge Sailcloth Ultra TNT - A Thru Hiking Beast?!
This is my first quick garden pitch of the new ultra, which has a number of upgrades from the standard Scarp, most notably the fabric which I will talk about more in due course. The 'Ultra TNT' material has fibres in three directions, which provides unmatched dimensional stability.
Ultra TNT has fibres running in three directions (0, 45, -45 degrees) which only leaves one axis at 90 degrees where it can deform easily rather than two like in DCF. Not only does this increase the overall stability of a tent but less stretch means less stress on the Mylar and less pin-holing.
The arch sleeve is made from Ultra 100 pack cloth which is stiffer than the 70D sil-nylon used on the standard Scarp 1 but is extremely tough.
Currently, TarpTent are only offering a solid interior with a factory seam taped 20D nylon SIl/PeU floor but the fly is 100% compatible with current Scarp 1 interiors. TarpTent will be offering the Ultra fly on its own for current Scarp owners who just want to upgrade their fly.
Stay tuned for some upcoming wild camps using this tent before my final thoughts 🏕️
