Theranostics (Thera(py)+(Diag)nostics) refers to the pairing of diagnostic biomarkers with therapeutic agents that share a specific target in diseased cells or tissues. There are different forms of theranostics such as nanotheranostics, radiotheranostics, immunotheranostics, optotheranostics, etc. The National University of Singapore is leading research in radiotheranostics which couples diagnostic and therapeutic tools related to the same specific molecular targets, enabling more accurate patient selection, prediction of treatment response and tissue toxicity, and response evaluation, with the goal of better outcomes.
