A volcano in southwestern Iceland has erupted for the fifth time this year.
It is Sundhnukagigar's most powerful eruption in three years since the volcano became active.
The fiery spectacle began just after an eight-week eruption between Hagafell and Stora-Skogfell on the Reykjanes Peninsula.
Lava fountains reached 50 metres (164 feet) high, and the fissure was about 3.4 km (2.1 miles) long, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
Flights continued as usual at Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport, according to its website.
Iceland has 33 active volcano systems and lies on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the boundary between two major tectonic plates.
The Reykjanes Peninsula last experienced volcanic activity 800 years ago, with eruptions continuing for decades.
This is the eighth eruption since 2021, and scientists believe the area is entering a new volcanic era that could last decades or even centuries.
