I use this single leg test routinely in assessing runners for:
1. hip control (look for lateral and upwards movement of the hip on landing)
2. lower limb injury (eg Achilles tendon pain, shin pain).
Note if the runner cannot hop on their single leg 5-10 times without pain of less than 3/10 in score, than it may be wise to rest the runner from impact loading activities such as running for a prescribed period of time.
