Advocates for Muslim parents rallied outside a school board meeting in Montgomery County, Maryland, Tuesday to demand that the school system restore parents' right to excuse their children from instruction that they say contradicts their religious beliefs.
Montgomery County Public Schools System enacted a policy that prevents students and families from opting out of certain LGBTQ+ instructional materials. Teachers are not required under the policy to send home letters to inform families when such books are planned to be read.
Meanwhile, a group of parents are suing the school system, claiming that the school system is violating the Constitution.
