Most stomach cancer cases are discovered at an advanced stage that has already expanded locally, and there is a significant chance that these tumour cells have already started to migrate through nearby blood vessels and lymphatic channels to distant organs.
While treating localized disease is important, it is equally important to limit this microscopic spread that cannot be seen by any imaging, in any case.
Most of these organs can be reached by chemotherapy given through blood vessels, which enables us to better control the disease that may have progressed to these organs and increase survival.
