In this video, I lazily sample into the akai s950 rackmount sampler without setting up keygroups or programs. If you sample one note at a time, and restrict yourself to only using the 950's internal memory, you can still manipulate the pitch and sampling frequency to use the sweet sampling conversion of the 950 and chop, sequence and track using the akai mpc 3000 (which is much faster, IMO).
From one main sample, I then quickly (and without thinking) come up with a few drafts of a minimal, jazzy, lo-fi instrumental.
My favorite type of music making is quick, intuitive drafts, where you vibe, and sketch out ideas you'll build on later. The music you make doesn't always have to be good. It's hardly ever perfect. But it must be made, because process is everything.
Beatmaking is a way of life. So is sampling. Much love.
