Bahrain: Violent clashes fail to halt Formula 1 Grand Prix
Anti-government protests flared throughout Bahrain despite the Formula 1 Grand Prix, on Sunday. In Sanabis, protesters blocked several roads during clashes with police, who fired teargas. Demonstrators and human rights activists have been demanding an end to the expensive event for nearly two years.
Protesters covered their faces, threw stones and smoke bombs towards the police. Police chased the demonstrators through the streets of Sanabis, whilst others were surveilling and patrolling the area.
Protests intensified over the weekend and carried on throughout Sunday. Organisers of the events have said no protests will stop the event from happening. True to their word, the event carried on as planned, with Sebastian Vettel finishing first.
