PLEASE NOTE - The 7 string guitar is "tuned down" a whole step (lowest string to highest string) - G D G C F A D.
The JAM TRACK is a basic ii-V progression. The chords I am playing on the "detuned" Foster 7 string are - Bbmaj7 to Bbmaj7b5. Theoretically, these chords are functioning as Gm9(ii) to C13add9(V) in relationship to the bass and chords of the looper. The chords are "sounding like" (Concert Key) Fm9(ii) to Bb13add9(V) in the Key of Eb.
Here are some suggestions for getting the most out of this video:
1) detune your 6 string guitar down a whole step (lowest string to highest string) - D G C F A D to play along with the musical examples and JAM TRACK sections of the Video - play in the Key of F

2) for "Standard Guitar Tuning" - move each of the Hexatonic scale patterns from the Video "down 2 frets" to match the "sound" (Concert Key) of the Foster 7 string (some of the patterns will "not" be able to be moved down because of the limits of the guitar fingerboard) - play in the Key of Eb

3) you can also apply the concepts presented in the Video to a JAM TRACK of your choice in the Key of F. For example, Gm9(ii) to C13add9(V) - G Dorian - C Mixolydian - Dm blues etc.
Video Highlights:
0:00-1:01 - Hexatonic Scale Patterns on strings 2 and 1
1:02-5:58 - Improvisation and JAM TRACK with "trading 4 bars" using Hexatonic Scale Patterns on strings 2 and 1
5:59-7:00 - Hexatonic Scale Patterns on strings 4 and 3
7:01-7:54 - Hexatonic Scale Patterns on strings 4 and 3 played with "Octaves"
7:55-11:55 - Improvisation and JAM TRACK with "trading 4 bars" using Hexatonic Scale Patterns on strings 4 and 3 played with "Octaves"
11:56 - Improvisation and JAM TRACK with "trading 4 bars" using Hexatonic Scale Patterns combining strings 4-3-2-1
13:16-13:30 - Gm pentatonic "blues scale" licks on strings 4-3-2-1
13:43-13:56 - Gm pentatonic licks out of the "blues box" at the 3rd fret - G dorian scale (Key of F) licks at the 5th fret - Am pentatonic licks out of the "blues box" at the 5th fret
14:09-14:24 - chromatic lick based on the G dorian scale around the 15th fret - Gm pentatonic "blues scale" licks - G dorian scale licks played with Hexatonic scale groupings
14:36-14:50 - descending Gm7 and Am7 arpeggios played with "Octaves"
15:03-15:17 - descending Dm arpeggios and G dorian scale licks played with "Octaves"
15:29 - Bbmaj7 and Gm9 chords played with "artificial harmonics"
In this video (recorded Dec 4, 2020) I am playing a Jimmy Foster Custom 7-string Tele-style solid body guitar. (number 232) I'm using D'Addario NYXL Nickel Wound Strings 09-42 and a NYXL Nickel Wound .074 for the low 7th string, Timber Tones Gypsy Tone African Ebony pick, 10ft Pig Hog "Western Plaid" right angle cable and an 18ft Road Hog cable.
The guitar was recorded direct through an A.R.T. LeVeLAr Professional Vactrol/Leveling Amplifier into an Apogee Duet and iMac running GarageBand.
A DigiTech JamMan Looper/Phrase Sampler is used for the backing track played on the Foster 7-string. The simple bass line was played on the low 7th string.
I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee open-back Headphones for monitoring.
The video was shot with an iPhone 6s Plus with the FiLMiC Pro app. Lighting is a single Fancier Studio Fan 500A 3 LED Light Panel.
For audio mastering, I've added a compressor, reverb and limiter in GarageBand. There is no EQ added.
