My introduction to Smar Jbeil unfolded during our inaugural visit to Batroun. While perusing Instagram, I stumbled upon captivating videos showcasing the magnificent Smar Jbeil citadel, and I couldn't help but wonder why it had escaped my knowledge until that moment.
The visuals presented a grand and imposing structure, leaving me perplexed as to why this historical marvel had remained somewhat obscure within Lebanon's tourism landscape. Even today, I find myself without a conclusive answer.
Similar to many of Lebanon's hidden treasures, Smar Jbeil is a place that calls out for recognition. Our journey to the citadel was nothing short of a mesmerizing adventure, one that unveiled the enchanting history of an Abandoned Castle. Originally erected by the Phoenicians, this ancient fortress played a pivotal role in the annals of history.
In subsequent eras, it came under the dominion of the Persian Empire before finding itself in the hands of Alexander the Great.
Within my vlog, we navigate the time-worn stones of the castle, immersing ourselves in its rich historical narrative. The remnants of a tower, a casualty of a massive earthquake in 1630, now stand as silent witnesses to the passage of countless centuries.
