In this video, I'm going to show you how I make my own Lavender Sugar Scrub in my home kitchen. It is additive free, preservative free, and if you use Turbinado sugar, it is a Vegan Body Scrub. Using real lavender flowers makes for an amazing DIY Aromatherapy experience. I know the oils are very popular right now, but this recipe uses the flowers only. I have a small kitchen garden in my back yard, and I grow my own lavender in a large pot. If you have ample sunshine, you can do this as well! I've been growing lavender like this for years, and I absolutely love having it on hand. It's also pollinator friendly. Because I don't use any pesticide in my garden, it's food safe and can be used in topical products like this scrub as well as in recipes.

Recipe:

2 cups of sugar
1/4 to 1/2 cup of lavender flowers
1/2 cup plus maybe another 1/8 cup coconut oil

I let the lavender flowers sit in the sugar for almost 2 months so the lavender oils would permeate the sugar. 2 weeks is all you really need to allow, but I got busy. The sugar continued to absorb the lavender.

Run the sugar with the lavender flowers through your food processor to combine the two. It also breaks the sugar down to a finer grain which is nicer in the scrub. It will mix the essential oils in the lavender flowers into the sugar.

Melt the coconut oil over medium low heat on the stovetop. When it's melted, combine with the lavender sugar mixture.

Put into a container with an air tight seal.

To use, simply scoop out a big and work gently into the skin. Rinse off with warm water. If using in the shower, be extremely careful as it will make for a very slippery tub. It's really better to use by the sink on hands and arms and face through the cold winter months.

**Special Note!! I realize not everyone can grow their own lavender....so in that case I highly recommend Mountain Rose Herbs. I've been buying from them for years, and their products are incredible. I'm sure I will incorporate some of their dried herbs into some recipes as well.
