Please be advised this should only be practised without professional guidance to avoid damaging your dogs retrieve.
Spit training although only a very small part of your overall training it is incredibly important and will help you with many aspects of your training from the dog learning what the hunt whistle means and its release command through to massively improving your stop whistle during handling. If also done correctly on game after dummies it should leave you secure in your confidence that if you were to trap a cock bird up against some stock fencing if all the previous training was carried out correctly your dog should either release or not try and pick the bird. Also training your dog beyond just a basic stop could also end up saving your dogs life at some point if example your dog went to pick a bird running through a hedge and you new there was a road on the other side you would be able to actually stop your dog. Most peoples dogs once sent on a live retrieves are unable to call their dog off leaving your dog vulnerable to freak accidents.
