About Dr. Bruce C. Trapnell, M.D.
An internationally known clinician-scientist, Dr. Trapnell’s work focuses on rare lung diseases, alveolar macrophage biology, GM-CSF in lung health and disease, and human gene therapy. The Trapnell lab investigates the pathobiology of pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP), focusing on the role of GM-CSF in regulating alveolar macrophage differentiation, and function. They established the pathogenic basis of autoimmune PAP, developed a blood test that now serves as the gold standard for diagnosis autoimmune PAP, and conducted clinical trials evaluating inhaled GM-CSF as a pharmacotherapy of autoimmune PAP. Trapnell is endowed Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and Director of the Translational Pulmonary Science Center laboratory at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He originally trained in pulmonary medicine at the Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Center at the National Institutes of health and has served as the Scientific Director of the PAP Foundation since it was founded in 2006.
