Time is running out for people with yard debris burning to take care of across parts of Northern California. Cal Fire is set to suspend burn permits starting Monday, June 23, at midnight. Grasses have grown tall following a wet winter and the melt-off of an above-average snowpack. Cal Fire said there’s now a high volume of dead grass after recent wind activity and warming temperatures dried out those grasses. That's why the agency started getting the word out Thursday that big debris pile burns can't happen for the remainder of the season starting next week. KCRA 3's Melanie Wingo reports.
