Authorities in Kavos, a popular party destination on Corfu Island, Greece, have uncovered a disturbing operation where bars served British tourists drinks mixed from remnants left behind by prior customers. Investigation, conducted by Greece's Authorities unveiled that 26 bars failed to issue receipts for transactions totaling over $285,000.
More alarmingly, drink samples collected during the probe revealed that some shots and mixed drinks served to customers were created from a cannister where bartenders had poured remnants of drinks from previous patrons. Shockingly, certain drink contained tampered alcohol.
In response, authorities temporarily closed or fined 28 bars in Kavos. Officials have cautioned tourists of consuming drinks at suspicious-looking bars.
This revelation follows the tragic demise of 22-year-old British police officer Hannah Byrne, who died after consuming a drink laced with methanol. Reports have indicated several bars in Kavos evaded inspections for years, raising concerns about hazardous bar practices that could jeopardize tourists.
