Presenter Mark Williams explores the birthplace of Britain's canal network inside of a coal mine on the outskirts of Manchester. The owner of the mine, the Duke of Bridgewater, installed a steam engine to pump water out of the mine and into a canal which in turn carried coal to Manchester, thereby kickstarting the Industrial Revolution.
