(2 May 2015) The co-leader of Turkey's pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) campaigned for votes in Paris on Saturday ahead of Turkish legislative elections in June.
Selahattin Demirtas reached out to the hundreds of thousands of people of with Turkish nationality living in Europe who are eligible to vote in the Turkish elections.
His party wants to gain 10 percent of the total votes required for the party to join Turkey's parliament.
Demirtas said the voters in Europe are key to reaching that goal.
In the past, the party has avoided the 10 percent threshold by running as independents and achieving a relatively small representation.
This time, running as a party, they must reach the threshold or end up with no representation.
Demirtas also dismissed criticism from Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan who last week accused the HDP of links to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) which is outlawed in Turkey.
