STORYLINE
An Israeli man pleaded guilty on Tuesday on charges of murdering his wife, and trying to hide and destroy the body.
Eli Cohen appeared in a Bangkok criminal court for the first hearing of testimony on Tuesday.
He was arrested in February 2004 and charged with killing and dismembering his wife, Carol, during a holiday in Bangkok. The charges followed the discovery of a headless torso of a woman, floating in a Bangkok river.
Cohen earlier denied all charges. Thai police allegedly have enough evidence to convict Cohen.
Witnesses including a taxi driver, allegedly saw Cohen with the same luggage later found to contain body parts of his wife.
If found guilty, Cohen could face the death penalty. Entering guilty plea may reduce the sentence.
