A wildfire raging on the Greek island of Rhodes forced thousands of tourists and island residents to shelter in schools and indoor stadiums on Saturday (July 22) after they were evacuated from coastal villages and resorts.
Paul Sims reports in Rhodes for The Sun as tourists and residents have been evacuated as the flames inched closer to houses and hotels.
One government official said 19,000 people had been moved away from their homes and hotels, 3,000 of them by boats. Many of them were assisted by police. There have been no reports of casualties.
