The Vienna State Opera mourns their honorary member Lotte Rysanek-Dörler, who died peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the age of 93 with her family at home in Vienna. Lotte Rysanek has been a faithful ensemble member for more than three decades. She sang about four dozen roles . . . .Lotte Rysanek was born on 18 March 1924 in Vienna and received her education at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna. In 1950, she gave her stage debut as a Manon at the Stadttheater in Klagenfurt. Her first state-sponsorship appearance was on 5 November 1954 (Civic State Opera in the Volksoperngebäude) as Cio-Cio-San (Madama Butterfly). From September 1, 1956 until her retirement on August 31, 1987, she was an ensemble member of the Vienna State Opera, where she also performed Agathe, Rosalinde, Donna Elvira, Marcelline, Leonora (Il trovatore), Mimì (La Bohème), Contessa d'Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Giulietta and Antonia (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Nedda (Pagliacci). Among her most sung parts are First Lady (Die Zauberflöte - 87 times), Musetta (La Bohème - 67 times), Voice of Heaven (Don Carlo - 53 times) and Helmwige (The Valkyrie), which she sang 109 times, with her last performance in house in the Ring being on 3 December 1987. In total, she performed 46 roles in 939 performances at the Vienna State Opera.
The artist performed at the Vienna Volksoper, the state operas of Hamburg and Munich, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Zurich and the Bayreuth and Bregenz festivals. She was also successful as an operetta and concert singer.
Lotte Rysanek was appointed Austrian Kammersängerin in 1968 and honorary member of the Vienna State Opera in 1987. In 1977, she was awarded the Austrian Honorary Consortium for Science and Art 1st Class.
The solemn blessing and subsequent burial takes place at the cemetery Hietzing (Maxingstraße 15, 1130 Vienna) on Thursday, 29 December 2016 at 2 pm."; classicalmusicguide
