About Tutankhamun - source Wikipedia
The boy pharaoh was born in 1341 BC. in the city of Aketaton. At the age of 7, Tutankhamun married the beautiful Ankesenamon, his half-sister. Two years later, his older brother Smenkhkare dies, the throne reverting to him. He abandoned his father's cult, returning to the traditional gods. In the second year of his reign, Tutankhamun leaves Tel al-Amarna, the ephemeral capital founded by Akhenaten, and settles in Memphis, near present-day Cairo. He makes it the administrative center and at the same time changes his name from Tutankhaton, "living image of Aten" to Tutankhamun, "living image of Amun", the great god of Egypt, worshiped in temples from Karnak to Thebes , the religious capital.
Tutankhamun had some walls of the temples at Karnak and Luxor, dedicated to Amun, decorated and numerous statues of the god and himself erected. Externally, there were perhaps two military expeditions, one to the Near East, the other to Nubia.
Tut-ankh-Amon's official name was Nebkheperure the name Tutankhamun being a very personal and less important one.
Tutankhamun's posthumous fame is due to his tomb in the Valley of the Kings near Thebes, discovered in 1922 by the British Howard Carter, the only tomb of a pharaoh that for 3,200 years escaped undefiled and unlooted.
Tutankhamun died at the age of 18. It is assumed that he was killed by a blow to the head, but there are several theories.
In 1925, Tutankhamun's mummy was opened and analyzed by Howard Carter's team. In 1969 and 1986, she underwent X-rays; In 2005, the mummy was scanned. X-rays show multiple fractures, but these are assumed to have been produced by Carter's team. X-rays show that Tutankhamun was healthy and had no signs of infection, indicating that he did not die of natural causes.
Tutankhamun was buried in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings that was probably not intended for him. The tomb is named KV62, KV being an acronym for King's Valley, and 62 the serial number of the tomb discovered in the Valley of the Kings.
The entrance to the tomb is topographically at the lowest level in the Valley of the Kings.
The torrents that flowed through 3 valleys united in the Valley of the Kings, bringing large amounts of sediment, deposited above the entrance to Tutankhamun's tomb, where they deposited a layer 1-2 m thick. After the rain, the land dried up, and the sediments were cemented. This was one of the reasons why grave robbers did not find and open this tomb, which remained practically untouched until 1922.
Another reason for saving his tomb was his posthumous erasure from collective memory, along with his father, a religious revenge of the followers of polytheism. The looters did not know of the existence of a pharaoh named Tutankhamun and did not search the ground for traces of his tomb.
The approximately 5,000 objects from the postmortem possession of Pharaoh Tutankhamun are currently found, newly ordered and classified, in the New Egyptian Museum of Antiquities (Grand Egyptian Museum) near the pyramids.
Tutankhamun's "Curse" - When Carter and Carnavon descended the steps, Carnavon worried about an insect sting, and when he cut it with a blade, the sting became infected, giving him pneumonia, so on April 5, 1923, he passed away. Before that, his canary was eaten by a snake (symbol of the pharaoh), on the very day the tomb was opened. Then dozens more died over the next 20 years. Some believe the curse was to blame. Many inscriptions say about this curse: "he who touches the pharaoh's tomb will be avenged by the lion, the crocodile and the hippopotamus" or "Death will reap those who disturb the peace of the pharaoh".
