One of the Shuswap Watershed Council's (SWC) primary objectives is to protect and maintain the water quality in Shuswap and Mara Lakes. In particular, the SWC is focussed on reducing nutrient inputs to rivers and lakes.
In 2020, the SWC launched a Water Quality Grant Program. The goal of the grant program is to keep nutrients on the land and in the soil, not washing off into nearby creeks and rivers. Farmers, agriculturalists, and landowners were invited to apply for funding to go toward projects or land management practices that reduce, divert, or capture nutrients away from water. This video highlights the work of four farms in the Shuswap watershed who are working on improving their on-farm nutrient management, with grant funding from the SWC.
